watching ‘The Jungle Book’ in our room.

the day before VBS started our church had their ‘Family Kick Off’. (i obviously forgot to blog about it BEFORE VBS started). Peyton and Jayden had a blast! it was hotter than anything but it didn’t seem to bother them at all.

hot, fun, and ready to cool off!

the boys were so excited to start VBS at church…. can you tell?

day two was ‘wear your VBS shirt’, so…. same shirt, different shorts, and mommy!

and day three was ‘superhero day’…. save me, save me!

a great 3 days for all of us!

the boys found a grasshopper floating in the pool and were pretty sure it was the one they caught the other day. (how they know, i have no idea!) but Peyton was sad and wanted to know why the grasshopper’s body was still here if it was dead. did that mean the grasshopper wasn’t in heaven?
so i TRIED to give him and Jayden a lesson on what happens to things when they die and why the body stays here. it is hard to explain to a 4 and 5 year old. it really is! i am not sure if they really understand but they had a funeral for mr. grasshopper. complete with a flower.

Jayden kept beating the dirt with a shovel. if the grasshopper wasn’t dead yet, i am pretty sure it was after the funeral.

a few hours later Peyton and Jayden dug him up, showed him to me and said ‘mommy he still isnt in heaven, SEE!’
lesson, fail.

he loves his yogurt, and i love his cracker
our summer has been filled with swimming and pretty much anything else to try to beat the heat….

(Jayden to me: ‘Mommy why you take a picture of GOG’s clouds?’ so cute! Gog= God).
but every once in awhile the boys find new things to explore. today it was a squirrel and a dragonfly….

and then a grasshopper that almost became a family pet.

he was caught….

then released….

and i am so thankful!

drawing houses and roads for their hot wheels
while Jayden took his afternoon nap we got everything ready for family to come over for a small party. Jayden has been talking about having a Buzz Lightyear party for a few months, so i decorated the table with all of the Toy Story characters i could find. he was so excited to see all of them when he woke up.

he was REALLY impressed with the cake. (which i decided to make this year instead of ordering). i found a Toy Story cake kit that came with two cake pans and toppers. it turned out pretty cute. i was a little disappointed that the toppers were bigger than the cakes. Jayden LOVED them, so that is really all that matters.
(they are supposed to be rocketships).

once Bunny, Poppy, and Grandpa got here the craziness started! it was fun to see both boys so excited…. and to see them open presents together. every once in awhile Jayden would ask someone to open gifts for him. funny boy!

both boys got new ‘race cars’ from Bunny & Poppy! they LOVE them!

thank you Bunny and Poppy!

Grandpa gave both of them so many great things!

then it was time for WATER BALLOONS!

then a little pool time!

presents from Aunt Tracy & Uncle Scott and then CAKE!

me and my birthday boy! Yay 4!

he was so excited to make a wish….

it was such a fun day!
happy 4th birthday Jayden! we love you so much!
we started Jayden’s birthday waking him up to a birthday cupcake, a tradition we started a couple of years ago. i love how tired (and happy) he looks!

for breakfast we surprised Jayden and Peyton by taking them to Krispy Kreme…. we had a VERY sugary morning. but we had good reason for it! (thank you for the new ’4′ shirt Bunny! it’s perfect!)

on the way home the local fire department had one of their firetrucks parked outside, so we stopped to see it. the boys were thrilled to sit on it and pretend they were firefighters.

and finally when we got home, it was time for PRESENTS!

i can’t believe he’s 4!

elefun!

the batmobile!

and a Cars 2 airplane! (i tried to cover all of the superheroes this year. Jayden loves all of them…. plus Buzz Lightyear of course!)

after a few more presents, playing, and swimming…. Jayden was ready for his afternoon nap, and i needed to get the house ready for Bunny, Poppy, and Gpa to come over.
we had a great morning and couldn’t wait to celebrate more!
(part II coming soon!)
